Apple Macintosh SE/30

1989 Apple Inc.

Considered to be the fastest and most desirable of the original compact Macintosh personal computers, Apple released the Mac SE/30 in 1989 as a successor to the Mac SE. The SE/30 improved upon the design of its predecessor by the inclusion of a 32-bit Motorola 68030 CPU and 68882 FPU but retained the existing processor-direct slot for expandability. While the system architecture allows a maximum of 128 MB of RAM to be installed, the stock system ROM code is limited to 24-bit addressing and a maximum of 8 MB of RAM. Upgrading the original "32-bit dirty" ROM SIMM or using a software system extension resolves this limitation. My SE/30 was initially acquired with the stock mouse, ADB keyboard from a IIgs with a missing key, and a non-booting hard drive. However, it includes the relatively obscure Radius Pivot card to support the use of an externally-connected rotating Pivot monitor. Sadly, the monitor was not included. Measures 10×11×13.5 in.
